The air we breathe has a big impact on our day-to-day lives. In fact, recent studies show that air pollution can increase the risk of breathing problems while we sleep. Our catalytic converters help reduce harmful emissions from cars and industries entering the air, so that the oxygen around us is cleaner and safer to breathe.

The effects of clean air

Cleaner air is important to all of us: it affects our breathing, our sleep, our performance and even our skin. The quality of our air affects us in many different ways. Four individuals discuss the impact air has on our everyday life and what could be done to improve it.

Performance

Air pollution can drastically affect your performance in physical activities like sports. Running trainer, Paul Bateson explains how.

Sleep

Prof. Stephan Letzel on air quality and the correlation between health, sleep and air.

Skin

“Poor air quality can affect your skin by causing premature ageing” explains Lorraine Dallmeier – owner of Formula Botanica.

Fuel for the body

“Clean air enhances your energy, focus, performance and productivity instantaneously”. For Hien Nguyen, oxygen is the basic fuel for the body.

Reducing emissions

It is an indisputable fact that diesel vehicles, for example, produce high emissions. According to the China Vehicle Environmental Management Annual Report 2017, released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection Department, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel vehicles in the country accounted for nearly 70% of the total vehicle emissions, and the proportion of particulate matter (PM) exceeded 90%. A large number of fine particles that floats in the air is forming a smog.

Over the past few years, the public’s call for a solution to the smog dilemma has been increasing and governments have shown a steadfast determination to solve the problem.

Vehicles make the world go around, but they have also created problems such as traffic congestion, noise and exhaust emissions.

While facing stringent emission standards and more elaborate and transparent regulatory means, the diesel vehicle industry and car industry alike are experiencing a critical battle. How can companies get through this restrictions? Product upgrading driven by innovative technologies may be the only solution. As a result, companies have been forced to change their approach and begin to take heed of policies and regulations, research trends as well as actively participating in technological and product upgrades. Forward-looking businesses have already experienced competitiveness as a result of innovation due to technological upgrades.

How to improve the quality of air

Energy and energy reduction

Rui Hu – PhD Student at Imperial College London – discusses ways in which to improve the quality of air.

Creating Awareness

Normally one cannot see the pollution in the air. Pea Soup House has found a way to make the issue visible.

Innovative technologies for cleaner air

From dawn until dusk, our lives are impacted by the air quality that we breathe. That’s why we’re constantly developing cleaner air solutions that improve our daily lives.

A day in the life of cleaner air

1. Rise and Shine

Our catalysts help to ensure that the air around us is cleaner and safer to breathe. Recent studies have shown that breathing cleaner air can lead to a better night’s sleep.

2. Driving

Worldwide, there are more than 1.4 billion motor vehicles on the road. Our catalysts – which are incorporated into the exhaust systems of cars, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles – are designed to reduce harmful emissions.

3. Flying

Our quest to improve air quality isn’t focused on just motor vehicles and buildings. We also offer products designed to improve air quality in commercial aircraft cabins by reducing the harmful ozone found at high altitudes.

4. Dining out

We have also developed systems that work in parallel with air conditioning in commercial buildings, to ensure that the air you breathe will be cleaner and safer.

Breathing clean air optimizes oxygenation, cell function, the metabolism and the release of toxins.“
